FER Home : Watershed Hydrology : Extension Programs

As a land grant institution, NC State is responsible for educating North Carolina's communities and citizens. We fulfill this mission by contributing extensively to the extension activities of state agencies that seek to educate the public on water quality and water-related resources, and by participating in outreach programs that educate the public on water resources, land management practices and aquatic ecosystems.

The following extension programs all provide advice on watershed hydrology-related issues:

NC State Aquaculture Extension offers web information and many useful publications on aquaculture operations and where to find suppliers.

NC State Fishery & Pond Management Extension provides complete information on how to build, stock and maintain healthy ponds plus info on regulations and other resources of interest to pond owners.

NC State Wildlife Extension provides citizens with information on wildlife identification, enhancement and damage control plus fisheries and aquatics advice. It also sponsors a variety of environmental education programs and offers both general information and certification classes in many areas.

FER’s Forestry & Environmental Outreach Program offers courses, workshops, conferences and seminars involving water issues for forestry and natural resource professionals on both a non-credit and continuing education credit basis. It also educates the general public, professionals, landowners, public and private land managers on sound management of water resources.

Extension Forestry provides technical assistance on the conservation and restoration of water resources and habitats via educational programs for adults and children. Services are provide through N.C.’s 100 County Extension Centers as well as the Cherokee Indian Reservation Center.

Project Learning Tree Project (PLT) is an award-winning environmental education program designed for students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12. It offers workshops and in-service programs for teachers, environmental educators and youth leaders.
