FER Home : Natural Resources Management : Vision
The Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources intends to continue supporting a natural resource management program that is broad-based — both in terms of the sciences employed and the ecosystems addressed — and recognized for its ability to develop new theories, methods and applications for integrated natural resource management.
Our natural resource management goals in the years ahead include expanding our research and teaching programs. We will call on our relationships with public and private sector partners as well as the intercollegiate strengths of NC State to:
- Educate undergraduate students to be well-prepared for careers or advanced studies in natural resource management through a through grounding in practical, theoretical skills and ethical principles.
- Support graduate students in their quests to pursue original scholarship in a wide variety of natural resource sectors.
- Conduct innovative research that uses a multidisciplinary approach to natural resource management to resolve important questions about our planet’s resources and how we can change or repair the effects of human behavior and natural events on these resources.
- Serve as an information clearinghouse for the State of North Carolina when it comes to collating and disseminating information on natural resource management.
