FER’s natural resource management academic programs combines practical, on-the-job experience with a through academic grounding in all fields contributing to modern natural resource management.

Our undergraduate and graduate programs draw from a variety of disciplines, ranging from basic biological sciences to relevant courses in psychology, chemistry, physics, statistics, economics, public administration, computer technologies and more.

Students can expect to study across all of the interest areas within the Department of Forestry and Environmental resources as well as take courses from cooperating colleges at NC State as they pursue their degrees.

Our undergraduate program options include two specialty majors related to natural resource management: Natural Resources Ecosystem Assessment or Natural Resources Policy & Administration. All students are encouraged to pursue internships and on-the-job experiences as part of their undergraduate training. These degrees preparing students for a variety of different occupations or futhur study within natural resources.

Our graduate level program includes a Master of Science and a non-thesis Masters degree in Natural Resources. Students pursuing advanced degrees in this field have explored a variety of advanced scientific problems involving natural resources, including highly-focused inquiry into basic cellular questions and much broader inquiries into natural resource factors affecting plant and animal species, specific environments, entire ecosystems and even the planet.
