FER Home : Environmental Technology : Academic Offerings

Our environmental technology program teaches undergraduates how to monitor, analyze, assess and communicate environmental changes in air, water, soils, sediment, flora and fauna through participation in hands-on, inquiry-guided learning activities that take place both inside and outside the classroom. Students gain hands-on experience in the field through laboratory instruction and field internships.

Our environmental technology undergraduate program teaches the quantitative and technical skills professionals need to understand and use the range of modern tools and technologies available today. A strong ethical foundation is also instilled, along with an understanding of the political, social, ecological and economic considerations that contribute to environmental regulations and policies.

After successfully completing the curriculum, students will understand the physical and biological components of the earth’s environments and how human and natural disturbances influence the environment. They will also be prepared to discuss, recommend and implement actions that help people and organizations meet their regulatory obligations and maintain a healthy environment.

As part of the program, technical instruction in hazardous management training is provided, helping students satisfy ISO 14001 standards and qualifying them to receive their 40 hr. HAZWOPER certification, 30-hour OSHA Industry Safety certification, and Manager in Training (MIT) certification in Hazardous Materials Management from the Association of Environmental Professionals.

We are also developing an on-line Masters Certificate in Environmental Assessment which will allow professionals and landowners to increase their knowledge and professional credentials in this important area.
